IPhone 5 and Windows 8 Phone Provides Serious Challenges to Android Market Share

Published on:

According to a recent study by the research firm IPR, the pending release of iPhone's next version and the introduction of Windows 8 will reinvigorate an already highly competitive smartphone market.

Android device makers will be required to respond by retooling smartphone feature sets, lowering prices and providing options that are more flexible.

The IPR study illustrates that, although price sensitivity will always be a factor in purchase decisions, smartphone features have become a critical component of a buyer's willingness to pay.

Those leaning toward an iPhone are less likely to switch to Windows 8 or Android phones. IPR's current smartphone research validates that it will take lower price points to maintain and expand the current client base of the Android market.
