Thailand's Dtac Fined After Network Outage

Published on:

Thailand based mobile network, Dtac has been fined THB10 million (US$320,000) by the telecoms regulator after another major network outage last month, the latest in a series of network problems suffered by the company.

NBTC secretary-general, Takorn Tantasit, said Dtac had failed to ensure that its service was up to international standards.

The regulator also warned that future failures would see fines rise to THB50 million per incident.

Dtac said that it would not appeal against the fine and will be paying it immediately. The company has also offered compensation to affected customers, although there was controversy over the conditions attached to that.

The latest system failure knocked out parts of the network for two hours on the 28th August, and was caused by failures in the ongoing network upgrade work.

The company has suffered five significant network failures over the past year.
