FTC Publishes Guide for Mobile App Developers
Published on:
The USA's Federal Trade Commission has published a guide for mobile app developers based on compliance with US regulations.
The guide states the frankly obvious, but it would seem that they felt it was necessary to state it due to ongoing complaints, especially with regards to privacy issues.
The FTC's new publication, "Marketing Your Mobile App: Get It Right from the Start," notes that there are general guidelines that all app developers should consider.
On the issue of privacy and collecting information, they state that: "For any collection or sharing of information that's not apparent, get users' express agreement. That way your customers aren't unwittingly disclosing information they didn't mean to share."
They also note that laws such as the Graham-Leach-Bliley Act, the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and the Federal Trade Commission Act may require developers to provide reasonable security for sensitive information.
