South Korea based Korea Telecom (KT) has announced that its LTE subscriber base has passed the 2 million mark. The service was launched in January and reached 1 million customers in June.

The monthly average number of LTE subscribers until last April was 230,000, and it doubled to about 480,000 in August after the new Galaxy price plans and handset lineups were launched. In addition, the daily average number of subscribers has increased by 18,000 so that the percentage of LTE sales has increased to 80% and continues to grow rapidly.

"We gained 480,000 subscribers in the month of August and expect to become No.2 in monthly sales." said Seo, Yu-Yeol, head of KT's customer business division. "We achieved 2 million LTE WARP (the company's name for its LTE service) subscribers and 8 million Olleh Internet subscribers by the shortest time in the industry due to our wired and wireless network infrastructure that our competitors can't catch up to."
