Thai Networks to Start LTE Trials by Year-End

Published on:

Thailand's state-owned mobile network, TOT is to carry out trials of LTE services by the end of this year, in cooperation with two unnamed private networks.

TOT chairman Panthep Chamrasromran said that around 400 base stations in central Bangkok and some major provinces would be adapted for LTE services.

The two private networks will each be able to install 200 base stations and will be submitting their plans later this week. They will pay TOT a fee for the rental of the towers and a management fee.

However, TOT is still waiting for regulatory approval for the trials, which will be carried out using 30Mhz of bandwidth in the 2.3Ghz spectrum.

In related news, he also confirmed that the company plans to expand its Wi-Fi coverage to 200,000 hotspots and will complete its 3G network deployment by this November.
