MegaFon Expands LTE Coverage to Eighth Russian City

Published on:

Russia's MegaFon says that it has expanded its LTE network coverage to the capital of Tatarstan, Kazan, the third city in the Volga Region to have access to mobile broadband services.

The service is being launched with a cut-price offer that lasts for the next two months.

"Even at the start-up stage, high-speed mobile internet is available in all regions of Kazan. The trial period will allow us to analyze customer's expectations and determine the average consumption level to set optimal tariffs. Based on this information and the experience of rolling out 4G services in other cities we will be able to offer the users higher quality internet services," says the Director of the Volga Branch of MegafOn OJSC, Alexander Grigoriev.

Kazan is the eighth Russian city after Moscow, Samara, Novosibirsk, Krasnodar, Sochi, Vladivostok and Ufa, where MegaFon provided access to 4G services. Before the end of the year the operator plans to provide 4G internet in St-Petersburg, in a number of towns of Leningrad Region and other regions of the country, and then the service will be available throughout the territory where 30 percent of the population of Russia live.
