Apple and Google CEOs in Talks to Settle Patent Wars

Google and Apple's CEOs are reported to have held direct talks to try and settle the ongoing patent wars between the two smartphone operating systems.
Although Apple hasn't directly sued Google yet, it has gone after a number of companies who use the Google backed Android OS, claiming that the software infringes its patents.
Citing people familiar with the matter, the Reuters news agency reported that the talks, while dominated by the smartphone issue also encompass the wider issue of intellectual property as a whole.
Google has been openly critical of the way software patents are being used as a tool to curb competition in the industry.
One possible scenario under consideration could be a truce between the companies over basic features and functions found in Google's Android mobile software, one source said. It is however not clear if the talks are aimed at a generic wide-ranging code of conduct, or specific to individual patents in dispute.
Apple's CEO, Tim Cook is said to be reluctant to pursue legal action against companies, unlike his predecessor, Steve Jobs who famously said he would spend all of Apple's cash reserves to destroy Android.
