Published on:
Nearly a month later than originally expected, Cameroon's Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications has published the short-list of companies that can bid for the country's third 3G network license.
Two applicants were excluded, although the Ministry did not name them.
The short list is:
- Bharti Airtel
- Detecom/ Deutsche Telecom
- Maroc Telecom
- Monaco Telecom/Cable and Wireless Communications
- Portugal Telecom Sgps
- Technologie et Système d'information/Korea Telecom
- Viettel Cameroun Sarl/Viettel Group
The country currently has two mobile networks, MTN and Orange. It was claimed that a third network, founded by local footballer, Samuel Eto'o had been licensed, but the regulator said it was just a reseller of services.
