Nearly a month later than originally expected, Cameroon's Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications has published the short list of companies that can bid for the country's third 3G network license.
Two applicants were excluded, although the Ministry did not name them.
The short list is:
- Bharti Airtel
- Detecom/ Deutsche Telecom
- Maroc Telecom
- Monaco Telecom/Cable and Wireless Communications
- Portugal Telecom Sgps
- Technologie et Système d'information/Korea Telecom
- Viettel Cameroun Sarl/Viettel Group
The country currently has two mobile networks, MTN and Orange. It was claimed that a third network, founded by local footballer, Samuel Eto'o had been licensed, but the regulator said it was just a reseller of services.
