Flash Player Returns to Android App Store - for UK Users Only

Published on:

Adobe has reversed a decision to remove its Flash media player from Google's Android app store, but only in the UK and only for a short timeframe.

The company said it had received messages from a number of "strategic partners" in the UK to make the player available again while they work on alternative services.

"Flash Player continues to be available on Google Play for users in the UK for a short while due to requests from strategic partners," a spokesperson for Adobe told BBC News. The BBC confirmed that it was one of the strategic partners that had asked the company to reverse its decision.

Flash is the technology that is still being used by the BBC for its online streaming service, but is working on switching to an alternative platform -- likely to be HTML5 -- as a replacement.

Adobe put a disclaimer on its Google Play page offering the download warning that the software is no longer being updated. The software will only work with versions of Android 4.0.x and older.
