Bangladesh Networks to Implement 10-Second Billing Next Month
Published on:
Bangladesh's mobile networks have been granted an extra month to upgrade their billing systems to support charging customers in per-10-second pulses. Currently customers are charged per minute, even if the call is dropped due to poor network quality.
The regulator, the BTRC has been pushing the networks to introduce shorter billing pulses for some time, but complained that the privately owned networks would not introduce the system. The state-owned network, Teletalk offers the service, although it doesn't seem to have given the company a competitive lead over its competitors.
The regulator eventually mandated the requirement at the start of the month, but gave the networks just two weeks to implement it.
Lt Col Rakibul Hassan, Director of the Systems and Services Department at the regulator has now said that the deadline will be extended by a month.
