Thai Regulator Concerned About Terms of Dtac Compensation Offer
Published on:
Thailand's telecoms regulator, the NBTC is investigating the offer of compensation made by Dtac to its customers following the network outage earlier this week.
The mobile network is offering a block of free voice calls to customers, but the controversy is over how they are being allocated. After previous network outages, the free allowance was automatically added to customer accounts, but this time, the customer needs to request it via shortcode, and there is a limited time to apply.
NBTC member Prawit Leesatapornwongsa said that he is concerned that some subscribers will find it inconvenient or difficult to receive compensation via such a method
The regulator may consider imposing new rules that require compensation to be automatic in future.
The mobile network though said that the outage only affected some customers and the nature of the fault meant it was difficult to be sure quite who had been affected by it.
Around 20 percent of Dtac's customers are thought to have lost service across the country for several hours earlier this week.
