Verizon Wireless May Carry Forthcoming Nokia Smartphone

Published on:

Nokia's goal of increasing its sales in the USA may be about to get a boost if reports that Verizon Wireless has agreed to sell its forthcoming smartphone are proven correct.

Although it is known that Nokia and Microsoft will be hosting a joint press conference on the 5th September, Verizon Wireless is not expected to be at the event. However, Bloomberg News reported that the mobile network has agreed to carry the handset in its range.

Citing a person with knowledge of the matter, Bloomberg said that Verizon is looking to reduce its dependence on the Android/Apple duopoly and sees the Nokia/Microsoft products as a potential duopoly breaker.

Verizon sells just the one Microsoft OS based smartphone, from HTC and has put most of its marketing effort behind Android in recent months.

Nokia re-entered the US market after securing deals with T-Mobile and AT&T, although the company had to cut prices to drive sales.
