Huawei Completes GSM Upgrade for Austrian Network

Published on:

T-Mobile Austria says that Huawei has completed the modernisation of its GSM network after swapping out more than 4,000 base stations across the country.

The company says that the contract was worth EUR100 million, and work had started in March 2011.

The new antennas lower power consumption by at least 40 percent, and the mobile network said that over 4 million customers will be affected by the upgrades. The upgrades also included provision for LTE services in the future.

The two companies ran LTE trials back in June 2010.

Nokia Siemens Networks has been handling upgrades for the 3G side of the network.
