The Android OS has made a leap from cameraphone to dedicated camera, as Nikon has launched a Wi-Fi enabled digital camera with Android OS built-in.
Nikon's COOLPIX S800c is aimed at people who want the quality of a dedicated camera, but also the file sharing capabilities found in smartphones.
The camera comes with a 16-megapixel sensor and 10-times optical zoom lens. Additionally, the lens is bolstered with Nikon's VR optical image stabilization for blur-free photos and stable HD video, even while handheld.
Users can also take advantage of the full functionality of Android OS to surf the web or even download applications and games onto their S800c. Just like a smartphone or tablet device, the camera has the opportunity to run camera-specific photo and video applications, yet enables the various benefits of shooting with a real camera.
The display screen on the back of the camera, shared by the Android OS and the lens is 3.5 inch touchscreen model.
The S800c will be available in September for a suggested retail price of US$350 in the USA.
