MegaFon Says Free LTE Trial Users Downloaded 800TB of Data in Three Months

Published on:

Russia's MegaFon says that its subscribers in Stolichny downloaded more than 800 TB of data, during a three month free LTE trial. The LTE users accounted for more than 15% of mobile Internet traffic for the Stolichny Branch of MegaFon.

Individual testers could send and receive more than 1 TB of data at the average rate of about 20 Mbps.

"Subscribers who downloaded such volume of data are not big in number -- there are about 50 people. As they admitted such volume of consumption was used mainly due to user interest: they purchased modems precisely for new technology trial-purposes, to try its rate capacity and downloaded heavy content on purpose," Natalia Spitsyna, Commercial Director of Stolichny Branch of MegaFon, noted. 'As a result they, just like many others, were content with rates and plan to continue to use 4G services, although not with the same volume in terms of traffic consumption".

The company is now charging for LTE services and has announced a range of tariffs and devices for consumers to purchase.
