FCC Authorises Tests in Lower 1755Mhz Bands for LTE Services

The US telecoms regulator, the FCC has decided to allow T-Mobile USA to carry out mobile broadband tests using its 1755-1780 MHz radio spectrum bands for LTE services.
In a brief statement from FCC Chairman, Julius Genachowski said: ""Today, we take an important step forward in our effort to enable greater government-commercial spectrum sharing, a new tool that joins clearing and reallocation as part of an 'all-of-the-above' strategy to address our nation's spectrum challenges."
"As we move forward, we will continue to collaborate closely with key government agencies, including NTIA and the Department of Defense, as well as private sector partners, to gain greater spectrum efficiency and unlock the many potential benefits of government-commercial spectrum sharing." he added.
The US trade group, the CTIA also supported the decision.
The move seems to follow on from a statement made in March this year when the FCC said it would look at options to release the lower 25Mhz the 1755-1780 MHz band, where there appears to be a viable path forward for mobile broadband services.
