Zambian Police Confiscate Fake Samsung Mobile Phones
Published on:
Police in Zambia have confiscated over 2,600 counterfeit Samsung mobile phones in a series of coordinated raids on shops in Lusaka and on the Copperbelt.
Police deputy spokesperson Charity Chanda said that several retailers have been charged with knowingly selling the fake handsets.
Counterfeit cell phones have recently flooded the Zambian market as other African countries, notably Kenya clamp down on the sale of such handsets.
The phones sell for a lower price, not just due to being faked, but also as they avoid the usual government taxes on imports.
The police are planning further raids on retailers across the country over the coming months.
