Adobe Removes Flash Player from Android App Store

Adobe has confirmed that it is removing its Flash Player app from the Google Play store and blocking downloads in future.
The move was expected as the company had previous said that it would stop developing the Flash Player for mobile phones and that it would not add support for the latest version of the Android OS, code-named Jelly Bean.
The company will provide security updates and bug fixes for existing versions until next September, but is already recommending that users remove the player from their handsets if they have upgraded to the Jelly Bean OS.
The Flash programming language has been largely superseded by HTML5 which offers similar functionality within the web browser without the need for a separate plug-in app.
Apple famously refused to allow the Flash Player to be deployed in its iPhones, which for a while gave Android an edge over its rival as many websites were still reliant on Flash for more advanced graphics.
Google's YouTube subsidiary has already moved over to HTML5 from Flash, and as one of the largest providers of Flash based content, the switch helped to diminish Flash usage stats in analytics reports.
