Vodafone Germany Considering Plan to Move Staff Between Offices

Vodafone Germany is reported to be preparing to move "hundreds" of jobs from its offices in Eschborn to Duesseldorf.
Citing letters sent to staff, Handelsblatt said that the affected staff come from the personnel, legal and finance departments. The company is also looking at whether it wants to move its marketing or technology departments to the headoffice as well.
A Vodafone spokesperson told the paper that the company is still analyzing the plans and consulting with staff.
The EVG labour union criticized the plans saying that many staff would be unwilling to relocate to another city, and described the plans as a "brutal corporate strategy".
The staff are based in the former Arcor headoffice, and the union said it fears that the entire office will be closed eventually.
Vodafone acquired Arcor in 2008, which was itself a joint venture between Mannesmann and the national railway company. Hence, the representation by a railway union at the headoffice.
