Falkland Islands Gets Mobile Data Services for the First Time

­Cable & Wireless Communications (CWC), the sole mobile network operator on the Falkland Islands says that it has launched mobile data services on its network.

Cable & Wireless Falkland Islands has launched GPRS and EDGE based mobile data services for the first time. Both prepay and postpay customers will be able to access the new services.

Mobile phone coverage is currently available in just the Stanley and Mount Pleasant Complex. The company also operates Wi-Fi hotspots in a number of locations around the Islands.

The Falkland Islands lie in the South Atlantic Ocean and have a population of around 3,000. Cable & Wireless Communications is the sole provider of telecommunications for the islands, delivering mobile, fixed line and broadband services.
