Liberian Regulator Investigating Cellcom's 4G Network Claims

Published on:

Liberia's Telecommunications Authority (LTA) says that it is investigating claims by the local mobile network, Cellcom that it is able to offer 4G based services.

The LTA says that the mobile network operating license covers only WCDMA and GSM services.

"With regard to Cellcom's claim of having 4G capability, the LTA has embarked on an investigation exercise to determine the veracity of this claim as is being advertised by Cellcom", the regulator said in a statement.

The company recently launched a 4G service last month and advertised it as such. However, it is actually a HSPA+ upgrade provided by Huawei and as such should not be a breach of the company's operating license.
