Evolved Packet Core Revenues to Approach $3 Billion in 2016

The wireless packet core equipment market is forecast to more than double in size to reach almost $6 billion by 2016, according to Dell'Oro Group. Evolved Packet Core, the emerging segment of this market, is forecast to expand half of the total market, driven by LTE network capital spending.
"Service provider mobile networks are undergoing a transformation towards Internet Protocol based architectures," said Chris DePuy, analyst at Dell'Oro Group. "Evolved Packet Core products are both the data throughput system enablers and the traffic charging systems that allow operators to manage interactions with customers."
The more mature Traditional Packet Core product revenues are expected to experience low single digits compounded annual growth rates between 2011 and 2016 as Evolved Packet Core devices become the more prevalent system deployed. The report shows that the PCRF market is forecast to reach nearly $700 M in 2015.
