Nokia Planning Imminent Launch of Latest Windows Based Smartphone

Published on:

Nokia is planning to trump Apple's forthcoming iPhone announcement by showing off its first Windows Phone 8-based smartphone about a week before Apple's event.

Citing a person familiar with the plans, Bloomberg News reported that Nokia expects to have the new handset in stores before the end-of-year peak selling season. That actually leaves open the possibility that Apple could get its handset into stores first though, as the company is famously fast at announcing a product then getting it into stores.

Officials at Nokia declined to comment on the timing of its next Windows Phone handsets.

Nokia is also expected to massively ramp up its marketing efforts in the US market to try and bolster its presence in the country where Nokia sales have always been historically weak.
