Google Delays Launch of Nexus Q Due to Software Upgrades
Published on:
Google has decided to delay the launch of its music streaming "orb", the Nexus Q after the company said it was adding extra features to the device.
Although the hardware was generally well received when it was first announced, the software has caused concerns with a very limited range of features. It would seem that Google has taken on board the criticisms and rather than release the product to poor reviews and then offer an upgrade later -- it has simply decided to delay the launch.
The company made the announcement via an email that was sent to people who pre-ordered the device.
The email said: "When we announced Nexus Q at Google I/O, we gave away devices to attendees for an early preview. The industrial design and hardware were met with great enthusiasm. We also heard initial feedback from users that they want Nexus Q to do even more than it does today. In response, we have decided to postpone the consumer launch of Nexus Q while we work on making it even better."
The company is not elaborating on what extra features it is adding, but has decided to send the device, which is expected to retail for around US$300 to pre-order customers completely free of charge.
The final launch date has not been confirmed.
