Vodafone Suspends Employee Over Twitter Insults

Published on:

Vodafone Australia has suspended an employee who described himself as the company's "social media ambassador" and then unleashed a tirade of abuse against the company's customers and suppliers.

The employee, Arthur Kotsopoulos who works in a retail store was chosen by the company to be part of a team reviewing new products, but it would seem that the title of social media ambassador was one he decided to award himself.

In a series of messages on his personal Twitter account, he wrote:

"HTC rep just walked in get ready for another hour of blabbering about what are the worst phones on the market,"

"To top it off I'm serving mentally retarded people who buy phones and have no clue how to use them. Asking me to message people for them.."

"Casual from down the road is working at out store today. She changes music & puts on this filthy emo music. Literally want to neck myself"

He later claimed in a tweet that the reports were false, even though his earlier messages were still visible on his Twitter account.

Vodafone said that it has suspended him from his retail position pending an investigation after saying it was "disappointed" that he expressed the views he had.

"We are sorry for the offense that Mr Kotsopoulos has caused." the company said.
