Huawei Completes Industry's First Simultaneous Mobile and WiFi Service
Published on:
Huawei today announced that mLab has successfully completed what it says is the industry's first simultaneous GSM/UMTS/WiFi service test. The test marks a significant step forward in the development of convergent solutions for mobile and Wi-Fi networks. Such solutions improve the experience of end-users when switching between mobile and Wi-Fi networks.
Huawei says that its solution allows operators to deploy Wi-Fi as a means of tackling the challenge of high data traffic. The mobile network assists in identifying and selecting the best WiFi signal, allowing subscribers to connect to WiFi without having to input their user name and password.
This technology is already in commercial operation in Chengdu, China.
To further understand the benefits this of simultaneous service forset up provides to end- users, Huawei is conducting a study to analyze tiered data service distribution according to data service type and user experience to ensure service continuity for mobile networks and Wi-Fi.
Huawei first launched its convergent solution for mobile and WiFi networks in 2011 and it has now been integrated into Huawei's AtomCell solution, the company's small cell solution.
