Zimbabwean Networks in Dispute Over Interconnection Fees

Published on:

Zimbabwe's Econet Wireless says that it is seeking to recover US$85 million which it claims is owned to it in unpaid interconnection fees from the country's two other networks, NetOne and TelOne.

The company has threatened to cut off its connection with the two networks if they do not settle the outstanding invoices.

As the network with the most customers, it is usual for it to be a net recipient of mobile interconnection fees between the three networks.

The revelation came during submissions to a Parliamentary Committee, where Econet's CEO, Douglas Mboweni said that unpaid interconnection fees is one of the biggest challenges for the industry at the moment.
