Google plans to build data centres in Kyrgyzstan because of its cheap electricity, Kyrgyz First Vice Prime Minister Dzhoomart Otorbayev said July 14, according to KyrTAG.
Addressing youth leaders at a summer school on democracy, Otorbayev said he recently conferred with Google Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt. "(Data centres) are enormous plants that require a lot of electricity," he said. "We have the cheapest electricity in the world."
Otorbayev did not disclose the costs or proposed dates of construction. Google currently has data centres in six countries, according to its website.
In June, the visiting Schmidt said Kyrgyzstan someday should build a centre for innovative technologies, K News reported.
