Nokia to Consolidate its Chinese Warehouses to Two Main Regions
Published on:
Nokia has confirmed that it is reducing its staff numbers in China after cutting its regional sales and distribution offices in the country from four to two.
Nokia split the country into four regions, and the West region, which previously headquartered in Chengdu, is going to be supervised by South region, and the North region will take charge of the Shanghai-based East region.
Nokia staff in the former West and East regions were responsible for sales and public relations, a Nokia spokesman confirmed. The size of job cuts were not disclosed, but some staff will be reportedly offered relocation packages.
Despite the cuts, the company is noted for the depth of its sales network in the country, which reaches not just the major cities, but also in third- and fourth-tier cities. However, the company still posted a sharp drop in sales of 70% year on year in the first quarter of 2012 as it manages its migration to Windows based smartphones.
