Apple Rejoins US Environmental Register

Apple has reversed a recent decision to pull out of a US environmental register after the company admitted the decision had been a mistake.
In addition to a general reaction from the public, withdrawing from the EPEAT rating system meant that the company was no longer able to sell its products to US federal authorities.
In an open letter, Apple's Senioe VP of Hardware Engineering, Bob Mansfield wrote that all eligible Apple products are back on EPEAT.
"Our relationship with EPEAT has become stronger as a result of this experience, and we look forward to working with EPEAT as their rating system and the underlying IEEE 1680.1 standard evolve." he added.
However, the open letter also noted how Apple products differ from EPEAT regulations, and in a note on its website, EPEAT said that it will "look forward to Apple's strong and creative thoughts on ongoing standards development."
The tension appears to be where EPEAT standards do not match developments in production methods. The key issue for Apple was reported to be the inability to disassemble some of its products for recycling.
Apple maintained that its manufacturing methods made that impossible, which in turn meant they failed to secure EPEAT certification.
Both companies seem to have come to an agreement to work on standards developments a bit closer in future.
