Nokia's Lumia 710 Smartphone Gained the Most Shelf Space in European Retailers

SpecTRAX, an online comparison database from Strategy Analytics, records the specifications of new cellphone handsets and tablets as they are announced. The latest findings identify which were the most widely available new smartphones in Europe in Q1 2012. The report ranked the top 20 smartphones launched during this period, according to their shelf-share, and provided summaries of their handset specifications.
"The Nokia Lumia 710 topped the charts with 33% shelf-share followed by the Sony Xperia S with 27% and then LG Prada at 21%. Some particularly popular devices from Apple and Samsung that you might expect to find in this report were launched in the previous quarter, so they did not feature in the success rankings of smartphones launched in Q1 2012," commented Steve Entwistle, vice president of Strategy Analytics.
The most widely available handset OEMs with European operators, in order of preference were Samsung, HTC, Sony, LG, RIM and Huawei.
"The top six vendors in terms of shelf share are also in the top ten global leaders by market share. Huawei is a new entrant showing strong penetration with European network operators. Motorola is a global player that's notably missing from this list," added Steve.
The specs of the smartphones launched in Q1 2012 were ranked as follows: the HTC One X had the highest specs, followed by the Sony Xperia S and then HTC One S.
"The data within SpecTRAX is constantly updated. Customers use it to track what's going on in global and regional markets in terms of the popularity of handset specifications. This is particularly powerful information for product managers and development teams," said Stuart Robinson, director of the SpecTRAX database service.
