Samsung Working on Microsoft Based Tablet Products
Published on:
Samsung Electronics is reported to be working on a new tablet with Microsoft which will use its forthcoming Windows RT software.
Citing people familiar with the matter, Bloomberg News said that the company has developed a tablet that uses ARM Holdings based semiconductors for the first time. The devices are expected to be released in October.
The move broadens Samsung's tablet reach away from being reliant on the Android OS, but could possibly draw Microsoft into the the battle with Apple, which accuses Samsung of copying its tablet design.
The move is noted as also being good for Microsoft which widely touted its new alliance with ARM Holdings, only for HP to reject the ARM-based software in favour of versions running on Intel and AMD hardware.
Tablets based on ARM technology should in theory drain batteries slower than other platforms, based largely on ARM's long track record in low-energy semiconductor designs.
