Saudi Arabia to Require National ID Number to Topup PrePay Accounts

Published on:

Saudi Arabia's Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC) has announced that mobile prepay subscribers will need to present proof of identification when topping up their account.

The new regulation will come into effect at the end of this month.

According to the Decision, no pre-paid SIM cards will be charged, recharged, or balance transfer unless the subscriber enters his/her ID number followed by the recharge number. More importantly, the ID number entered must correspond to the ID number provided by the subscriber to the service provider at the time of SIM purchase.

To keep pre-paid SIM cards activated, the subscriber's information provided to the service provider must be verified, valid and up-to-date.
