Orange Will Start LTE Trials in Switzerland This Year

Published on:

Orange Switzerland has confirmed that it will start LTE trials in up to ten cities by the end of this year. The trials will be followed by a pilot phase in spring 2013 and the roll-out of the 4G network in up to six cities over the course of 2013.

The company also confirmed that it wont be appealing against the regulator's spectrum allocation, which is an issue that may be taken up by the other networks.

"In the mobile phone frequency auction, Orange was able to secure the best frequency spectrums for expanding its mobile broadband network quickly. However, an appeal to the Federal Administrative Court could have delayed an important innovative step for Switzerland. We therefore decided to abstain from appealing for the benefit of our customers, and focus our efforts on expanding our mobile network," states Tom Sieber, CEO of Orange Switzerland.

Orange is investing over CHF 700 million (US$740 million) into network modernisation, as well further expanding its mobile network, for example with the LTE technology.
