Telenor Montenegro has announced that it will start collecting a monthly EUR1 per SIM card tax from next month.

The company said that it is obliged to collect the tax following recent changes to VAT rules covering tobacco products, electro-acoustic and acoustic devices.

Fee on active SIM cards, imposed by this law, is a fixed monthly amount that will be charged, collected and paid in to the Budget of Montenegro starting from 7th July 2012 till 1st January 2014.

For postpaid users - fee will be presented on the regular monthly bill as a separate item, starting from July (due in August). For prepaid users - first call in the month for which the fee is calculated is a condition for charging the fee. Charging will be realized by reducing prepaid accounts for the amount of the fee.

Active SIM cards, in terms of the Law, include all registered SIM cards with at least one outgoing call during the month for which the tax is calculated.
