Next iPhone Upgrade Rumoured to Offer NFC Support

Published on:

Rumours that the next version of Apple's iPhone will come with a built-in NFC mobile wallet facility has resurfaced again. The rumours first emerged for the current model, but it ended up being launched without the facility.

However, NFC is gaining more momentum, and although Apple is more innovative in software, it tends to be slower at adding hardware based upgrades to its iPhone range.

The Apple watching website 9to5Mac says that it has found references to NFC based services and commands within the software for a prototype iPhone.

It is expected that an NFC facility would be tied into Apple's Passbook service that enables the users to store gift cards, coupons and tickets inside a single account. Adding credit card support would be a modest software upgrade.

Google already supports NFC in its Mobile Wallet for those Android smartphones that have NFC support.
