HTC to Close Down Brazilian Sales Operations

Published on:

Taiwan's HTC has announced that it is pulling out of the Brazilian smartphone market after struggling to compete with the larger handset vendors.

The company only sold two models in the country, the Wildfire S and Ultimate smartphones and local reports said that it had seen several years of declining sales before finally deciding to pull the plug on the division.

HTC's spokesperson told local media: "After analyzing the sales numbers, we have decided to pull out of the Brazilian market."

The company committed to maintaining a support facility for their existing customers in the near future.

The company will lay off a number of staff, said to be in the low dozens.
