LG to Stop Developing Tablets - Focus on Mobile Phones Instead
Published on:
South Korea's LG Electronics is to pull back from the Android tablet market, having seemingly decided that competing with Apple's iPad is just not worth the hassle.
The company will instead focus on smaller devices - which could still include by inference the mid-sized devices that sit half-way between smartphone and tablet.
"We've decided to put all new tablet development on the back burner for the time being in order to focus on smartphones," Ken Hong, a spokesman for Seoul-based LG, told Bloomberg News in response to queries.
Reacting also to the launch of Microsoft's own tablet this week, the Surface, Hong added that "LG doesn't see Surface competing with anything we're focusing on at the moment,"
Most analysts put LG as the world's fourth largest mobile handset manufacturer by volumes, although it has struggled to turn a profit recently at the division.
