Glo Mobile Fined by Ghana Regulator for Missing Launch Deadline

Published on:

Ghana's National Communications Authority (NCA) has fined Glo Mobile a total of US$200,000 for missing the network rollout deadlines specified in its operating license.

The company was required to cover six regions within three years of receiving its license. Although it received its license in June 2008, it did not launch its service until April this year. The company covered 1,000 communities at launch.

The company had repeatedly complained about difficulties in building out its network infrastructure, but also delayed its launch late last year due to "technical problems" that the company refused to explain.
