Israel to Abolish Delays to Number Portability Requests

Published on:

Israel's Ministry of Communications has announced plans to amend the Number Portability rules to speed up migration of phone numbers between networks.

The new rules require the porting to take place immediately, instead of after a three-hour delay as is the current system.

The Ministry that that the change should enable the newly contracted operator, in many cases, to immediately verify new subscribers' successful transition by making a call or sending an SMS to them while they are still at the customer service center, right after making the contract

In the present portability plan, the portability process lasts 3 hours, including a 2.5 hours administrative delay in the mobile market and 2 hours in the fixed market.

The Ministry did not say when it would implement the new regulation.
