Telenor Adjusts Hungarian Tariffs in Reaction to New Taxes
Published on:
Telenor Hungary has revamped its tariffs in reaction to a hike in taxes announced by the government earlier this year. The company says that with the new tax, the total gross cost of a minute talk time includes more than 50% of taxes and other fees payable to the state.
The new tariffs come into effect in the middle of next month, and Telenor said that on the whole, only a part of additional costs caused by the phone tax will be passed on to customers.
The company added that it modified its tariff plans in a way that reflects the phone usage habits of the different customer groups: private customers will not see their monthly fees increased, heavy user clients will not get a usage-based increase on voice services. The changes affect SMS in all tariff plans alike, while mobile internet tariffs remain unaffected by the impact of the tax.
Telenor added that it is convinced that the new tax puts a disproportional burden on telecommunications services. Their tariff adjustments, in the company's view, causes less problems for its customers and the Hungarian economy than freezing long-term development projects or cost-cutting measures would have caused.
