Microsoft Drops HTC From Early Release of New Operating System Software - Report

Published on:

Smartphone manufacturer, HTC may miss out on the latest version of the Windows Phone operating software after Microsoft expressed concerns about the company's sales prospects.

Citing unnamed sources, Bloomberg News reported that Microsoft locked out HTC from the development of products using the newest version of its OS due to concerns about its lack of tablet experience, and because it doesn't sell enough devices.

The move is a turn around for the company which was once the favoured partner for Microsoft and one of the earliest supporters of its original Windows Mobile smartphone software.

HTC recently reported a drop in sales for the past month and has warned that it will miss earlier revenue predictions for the second quarter of this year.

The new OS, which will also be the first to run on chip designs from UK based ARM Holdings is due to come out later this year and has been optimised for mobile devices.

In a statement, HTC said that it "intends to support future versions of Windows and isn't commenting on the details of its product plans,"

Although left out of the early development, it is still expected that the company will release devices based on the new Operating System next year.
