Research in Motion Opens IT Innovation Centre in Indonesia

Published on:

Research in Motion is reported to have signed a deal with Indonesia's Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) to set up a joint innovation center.

The center is expected to organize IT trainings and education programs.

"Blackberry has become so popular in Indonesia, which is one of our major markets not only in Asia, but also globally," Hastings Singh, the vice president for sales and distribution at RIM East Asia, said during the event.

"For the past 18 months we'd thought about how to reciprocate Indonesia's very warm welcome to Blackberry, and we finally decided on a program aimed at developing youth education," he added.

The RIM Innovation Center will be located in the ITB campus.

The company had problems last year with the Indonesian government who banned the sale of some products after RIM failed to set up a local repair facility and over concerns about email monitoring.
