HTC's Latest Smartphones Delayed by US Customs Officials

Published on:

Taiwan's HTC has confirmed that US Customs officials have delayed clearance for its new smartphones are part of a dispute over patent infringements.

Last December, the USA's ITC ruled that HTC had infringed on an Apple patent and imposed an import ban on any products infringing that patent. Although HTC says its new handsets do not infringe the patent it noted that they have to be inspected by US Customs to check for compliance.

"The US availability of the HTC One X and HTC EVO 4G LTE has been delayed due to a standard US customs review of shipments that is required after an International Trade Commission exclusion order," the firm said in a brief statement.

"We believe we are in compliance with the ruling and HTC is working closely with customs to secure approval"

HTC's share price dropped 6.6% to close at NT$411 on the Taiwan Stock Exchange.
