Malaysia Takes an Extra Step Towards 3G
Malaysia's Communications and Multimedia Commission has confirmed that it has finished its selection process to decide which 3G technology will be used in the country. The Commission chairman, Nuraizah Abdul Hamid said that he will pass the recommendations to the Energy, Communications and Multimedia Minister, Leo Moggie shortly for his consideration. The country is widely expected to opt for WCDMA as opposed to cmda2000 and the formal decision should be made known before the 3G tender documents are published next February. The county is holding a beauty contest, and the licenses are expected to be awarded by the end of June 2002."
