Note -- this news article is more than a year old.
The Angolan mobile network operator, Movicel has signed a contract with Huawei for the supply of a LTE network. Under this contract, Movicel will deploy a LTE FDD 1.8 GHz network in province Cabinda, the most productive crude oil region in Angola.
Based on the actual customers and traffic map, Movicel adopted from Huawei an end-to-end SingleRAN convergent solution, including RAN (Radio Access Network), CN (Core Network), DBS (Distributed Base Station) and terminal devices.
The network should be switched on by June this year. Financial terms were not disclosed.
The press statement also claimed that Movicel is "Africa's leading operator" - which will probably surprise the likes of MTN, Vodacom and Airtel.
