CST, the Portugal Telecom subsidiary in S o Tom and Pr ncipe has initiated a technical pilot phase of its 3G network.
The start of the pilot phase was marked by a demonstration session and a video call between government and regional officials located in each of the two islands (Sao Tome and Principe islands).
The test period will last approximately six weeks, followed by the commercial launch of the 3G service, planned for March of this year.
During the experimental phase, 3G coverage will reach approximately 70% of the population of Sao Tome Island, currently covering already 74% of the island of Principe.
CST believes that mobile broadband and internet via mobile phone will be massively adopted when the fiber-optic submarine cable enters into operation, which would allow higher throughput and higher consumption at more affordable prices.
