Nokia May Have Shipped 1.3 Million Lumia Handsets in First 2 Months

Published on:

Nokia is estimated to have shipped around 1.3 million of its new Lumia smartphones in the two months after the launch in Europe.

An estimate of the shipments, which may differ from actual sales to customers, was based on the average estimate of 22 analysts compiled by Bloomberg. The projections ranged from 800,000 to 2 million although only one analyst predicted sales of fewer than 1 million handsets.

The shipment estimates cover the period before the smartphone range was expanded to include US markets and are expected to reasure investors who had been worried about the company's decision to switch to the Microsoft OS for its smartphones.

Lumia sales may reach 3.2 million units this quarter as the handsets ramp up in Asia, according to the average of 16 analyst estimates.

Nokia has not formally commented on sales or shipments of the new smartphones.
