Telefonica Movistar is planning to shut down its legacy CDMA network in Ecuador at the end of this month, and is running campaigns to persuade the remaining users to switch to its WCDMA based 3G network.
The company said that about 0.4% of its customer base is still using the older CDMA network - although that still adds up to around 180,000 customers.
The company is offering a number of incentives to migrating customers, but did say that they would also expire at the end of the month. Some 10,000 customers have migrated in the past few days, a spokesman for the company noted.
